Shawn and I had the opportunity to play in the first Fly 18 Tour Across America event. It was held at Mission Trails Golf Course in San Diego, CA. This was also the grand opening for disc golf on this traditional golf course. The disc golf course plays right along the regular course with Fly18 rubber tee pads off to the side of the golfers tee box. The baskets are all Innova DISCatchers and are locate off to one side or the other. All greens and sand traps are out of bounds for disc golfers. The course plays over 14,000 feet! It is a par 71 and it is incredibly fun.
Believe it or not, but the first day of this event was cold. I'm guessing it was mid fifties. Close to 40 people showed up for the inagural event. All participants played two rounds of 18 (one round a day). Perhaps the most noticable difference (other than the incredible length) was the fact that all golfers rode in a cart during their round. This event was definitely a success and I look forward to all the other Fly18 courses and tournaments.
