WINTERTIME OPEN
F
EBRUARY 16 & 17, 2002

The 24th Wintertime Open was played at the historical Oak Grove course in Pasadena, CA. This is the site of the first disc golf pole hole course ever installed. Athough it has seen many changes over the years, this course has been in the ground since 1977. This event/course may also be referred to as soak grove. Yes, it is in sunny southern CA, but it rains more often than not during this event. A first for this year was the split of amatuers and pros. The ams played their event the weekend prior to the pros. The weather made a special effort this year as it rained both this Sunday for the pros and last Sunday for the ams!

During the first round, someone in Shawn's group mentioned that he had heard that Shawn had just gotten an ace. Shawn told him it had been over a year since he had aced and that he infact had never even had a tournament ace. The next tee shot, of course, Shawn gets a hole in one.

There were 62 pro men playing this weekend. Stevie Rico runs away with first place. Al Schack comes back strong during the final 9 to take second. Brian Schwerberger takes third and Geoff Lissaman fourth. Shawn ended in 8th.

In the women's division, we had 9 pro women. This year the handful of master's pro women that play the SoCal events have decided to play in the open pro women's division in order to increase field size. I won by 12 over Brigitta Logerhorn from Sweeden. Sue Stephens was thrid and Lesli Herndon was forth.
