Mid-America
Open
May 12 & 13, 2002
Once again, the weather reports didn't look good. On top of that, we were going to play a brand new course, Indian Hills. The new course was in an already rain drenched area. The teepads where mulch and couldn't sustain the use along with all the rain we received on Sunday. It was necessary to stand still in some of the tee areas. The wooded holes were also incredibly muddy. Everyone one on the course was covered in mud. Right before the second round was to start, a strong thunderstorm moved throw which caused an hour delay. It rained all throughout the final round. A final 9 was planned, but due to the conditions and the delay, it was omitted.
Shawn played well all weekend and won his first supertour!!! And he did so by 5 strokes. As you look at the scores you may question the first round scores because they are so low. There had been so much rain that two of the holes were unplayable so the first and 4th round was on a 16 hole course.
