Old
Dominion Showdown
October 5 & 6, 2002
The Old Dominion Showdown is held in Spotsylvania, VA. Saturday rounds are
played at the Grange. This is privately owned land that is home to two 18
hole courses and one small (very fun) 9-hole "teke" course where
the longest hole may be a little longer than 100 ft. The two 18 hole courses
have a number of extremely tightly wooded holes. Although it isn't a terribly
long course so low scores are quite possible. Sunday everyone will be playing
at the Loriella course in Fredericksburg.
After last weekend, I decided it was time for me to take a little break from playing so I won't be playing in any of the events for the next month.
The real excitement this weekend was all the news coming out of the DC area with all the people being shot by the sniper. The day we practiced the Loriella course, was the day that a woman was shot in front of the Michael's in Fredricksburg. That store is within a mile of the course. It was too close for comfort. We had originally planned to stay in a Walmart parking lot that night which was only blocks away from the shooting. Instead we decided to go back down to the Grange and hide out on private property the rest of the week.
As far as the competition goes... Shawn didn't play that well at the Grange but did better at Loriella and ended up in 14th out of 39 pro players.
