The United States Disc Golf Championships is a tournament like no other currently being played. It is a four day event where the golfers play one round each day on a mentally fatiguing course. The course is on Winthrop University property and utilizes miles of yellow rope to artificially tighten all the fairways. That is, many of the holes are line with rope. If you are outside the rope, you are out of bounds. The course is long and very challenging.

What really makes this event special is the way in which the players are treated. There are tee times, a club house and shuttles between the parking lot and the club house. There is a huge tournament staff and the pride they take in their event is obvious.

This year the event was completely full. Three weeks prior to the event I choose not to compete. I'm still taking a break. It was kind of hard to watch all the excitement and not be a part of it, but I'm still happy not to be playing (although I expect/hope to be playing in this one next year).

This is the 4th year of this event and it is Shawn's 3rd year playing in it. Historically, he has had a very hard time staying away from the OB on this particular layout. Every year he goes into the event with the single goal of playing very conservatively. This year was no exception. Shawn played extremely well the first round, but you wouldn't necessarily now it looking at his score of 72. He had 8 penalty (OB) strokes. The sad part was that he was within inches of the OB line on nearly every one of those shots. Needless to say it was a frustrating round for Shawn. Round two was much better as far as the OB goes and Shawn shot a very respectable 66. Round three started really really well but he had a trouble at the end and ended with a 68. He carded a final round of 67 and finished in 45 out of 153.
