This was the second year for the Mid-America to be a Supertour. Last year's event was one of the wettest and muddiest tournaments I've played. With that in mind we kept our eyes on the forecast. It looked like we were going to get wet Saturday, but then should be OK Sunday. As it turned out, we dodged the rain nicely as it stopped raining about an hour before tee and started again just at the end of the second round. Along with the second wave of rain came the tornadic activity. The tornado sirens even went of right at the end of the second round, but they didn't last long.

For some reason this event was not very well attended this year. There were only 30 pro men and two pro women (myself and Lesli). I'm frustrated over that lack of participation by the women. I talked to the TD and told him I would prefer to play with the men then have them make an exception for us and have a division of 2 (as 4 is the minimum number for a division). Lesli choose to sit the weekend out. Although the chance for me to make any money on the weekend is much less when playing with the men, the enjoyment level is greatly increased when I get to play with new and different people every round. This event was no exception. I had a great first round shooting 54 and found myself on the second card. Shawn had a good round going, but ended with 4 bogeys and ended up at 55 which put him on the third card. The next round, I had the poor finish and shot 7 over par which pushed me back to the middle of the pack. Shawn shot much better and moved up to the first card.

Sunday the weather forecast was better, but it did say we would experience 25 - 30 mph winds (with gusts up to 40 mph). The first course we played was partly isolated. The winds did come into play, but not on every hole. I was happy with my round and stayed in the middle of the pack. Shawn putted very well, but kept finding the OB and dropped a few in the standings. The second round was quite humorous. The conditions were brutal with the strong winds. The course we played is quite short and people usually shoot well under par. However, the way the course is designed, there are many holes that require you to throw up and over the groupings of trees. Such shots were infinitely more difficult in the wind. It was a mentally fatiguing round as each shoot required great thought. I saw some of the most amusing shots during the round. It was really quite fun. I shot well enough to stay in the middle of the pack. Shawn finished in 5th.
